To be considered for enrollment in the Educator Preparation Innovation Center, you must meet the following program requirement:
- Pre-Admission Content Test (PACT). A passing score on a PACT in the content area to be certified. (Refer to page 6 PACT Information) PACT information located at: http://goo.gl/BdZRhk
- Conferred Degree: Applicant must possess a conferred undergraduate or graduate degree from a regionally accredited college/university recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
- GPA: Have a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 GPA may be calculated using only the last 60 semester credit hours of coursework if necessary. (Exceptions can be made if other requirements are met).
- Application: Submit a completed application. Provide the following supporting documentation: criminal history release form, official transcripts in sealed envelopes from each college or university attended, 3 references, a writing sample, and $75 application fee. - Interview: Haberman Online Pre-Screener is required after online application and before admission - This online pre-screener is a scenario-based interview to give a clear picture of the candidate's beliefs about teaching at risk youth, and to predict how a candidate will behave on the job. Which ones will be able to handle the stress? The discipline? The unmotivated students? Those who learn differently?
Individuals with undergraduate or graduate degrees from institutions of higher education outside the United States must meet the following additional requirements:
- Foreign Transcripts: Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by an approved credential evaluation service. Evaluation must include semester hour equivalent, grade point evaluation and a statement confirming that the foreign degree is equivalent to a degree conferred by a college or university in the United States. The evaluation must indicate that the applicant has an overall grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.50.
- English Oral Proficiency: Be able to speak and understand the English language sufficiently to use it easily and readily in conversation and teaching. English language proficiency may be evidenced by one of the following:
- a. Completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree at an institution of higher education in the United States.
- b. If an undergraduate or graduate degree was earned at an institution of higher education outside of the United States, evidence must be provided under procedures approved by the SBEC executive director that the primary language of instruction was English.
- c. Verification of satisfactory scores on an English language proficiency exam(s) approved by the State Board of Educator Certification (SBEC). (Currently the only approved test is the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)).
- TOEFL: A score of 26 is required on the speaking section of the TOEFL.
Applicants have the option to request a Preliminary Criminal History Evaluation. The service is provided to the requestor for a non-refundable $50 fee. The requestor will receive an evaluation letter by email from Texas Education Agency staff advising of potential ineligibility for educator certification. Once you have paid application fee and meet all other admission requirements you will receive an email notice of official acceptance to the program. We must receive written email confirmation of acceptance from the applicant. An applicant is not considered admitted to our program unless they respond in writing.
